Kathanayakudu is the story of a village barber Balu (Jagapati Babu), who lives his life peacefully along with his wife and children. One day he comes to know about the shooting that is going to take place in his village. Balu realizes that the hero of the film Ashok Kumar (Rajnikanth) is none other than his childhood friend and reveals the same to his family and villagers. Villagers wishes to meet Rajnikanth through Balu. But the hero does not recognize Balu and refuses to meet him. What happens next is the climax of Kathanayakudu.
