The State Institute of Fisheries Technology had its genesis in the year 1958, with technical assistance from FAO. Its modest aim was to cater to the training needs of traditional marine fisher folk, who eke out their living on fishing. The basic principle of this institute was to upgrade the skills of the traditional fisher folk.
Training Programmes offered: Six months Departmental Officers In-service training, One year Fishermen boys “Tindal cum Driver Course”, Fish seed farm Management, Scampi Culture, Fresh water Pearl culture, FCS management, Repairs & Maintenance of FRP Navas, Marine Fishing Gear, Engine Rirs and mainteepanence, Aquarium Construction and Ornamental Fish breeding & rearing, Fisheries Orientation programme to Academic Students, Special training to Educated Unemployed youth in Hatchery Operation & Management, Special training to Educated Unemployed Youth in Aqua Labs Operation & Management, Community based Disaster Management, Training programmes on “Office Management” & Stress Management” with (DVD.
