Kakinada, Feb 4th: The government is planning to renovate play grounds in some selected schools in the district under the Panchayat Raj Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhyan (PYKKA) scheme with a cost of nearly 80 lakh. Reviewing the progress of the works with the officials concerned at the collectorate here on Thursday, the collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwevedi said with a view to encourage sportsmanship among students of the government schools, the government was investing lakhs of rupees by providing infrastructure facilities for sports and games and renovation of playgrounds at the schools.

Under the first phase of the scheme, the schools of 100 grama panchayat and six mandal panchayats  in the district were identified to take up works. As the grants were already released the officials should speed up the works and complete them by the end of the March. However for the second phase works, another Rs 49.50 lakh grants would be released, he added. The district sports development officer, Mr. R. Ravi and headmasters of various schools attended the review meeting.
