Hyderabad, Jan 18th: The state government on Monday approved an increase in the lifetime tax on four-wheelers but spared two-wheelers from the hike. There will be two tax slabs for four-wheelers. Vehicles costing more than Rs 10 lakh will pay a lifetime tax of 14 per cent of the value of the car and those below Rs 10 lakh will be charged 12 per cent. The existing lifetime tax on four-wheelers is nine per cent.
Sources said the health minister, Mr D. Nagender, and the panchayat raj minister, Mr Botsa Satyanarayana, took exception to the transport department’s proposal to increase lifetime tax on two-wheelers from nine per cent to 10 per cent and they had the support of other ministers. They argued that the department might get a maximum of Rs 25 crore per annum if the tax on two-wheelers was increased. They said the government could make up this amount elsewhere. It was also decided to increase tax on the second vehicle in a family and company-owned vehicles to 14 per cent .
