Visakhapatnam, Jan 17th: Andhra Pradesh Hindi Academy Chairman Y Lakshmi Prasad said a cash award of Rs 1,25,000 would be presented to the renowned Telugu Writer A Somasunder on Jan 18, marking the Death Anniversary of the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party(TDP) Founder N T Rama Rao and the poet Harivanshrai Bachchan every year. Talking to media persons here, Professor Prasad said, the Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari would be the Chief Guest and present the award.
Professor Prasad, a Sahitya Akademi award winner this year, for his novel on 'Draupadi', was vehemently criticized for his depiction of Draupadi sexually and allegedly describing her physical charms much against the popular perception of a pious character. Some women organizations burnt his novels in the State. The award winner said the impeccable personality of Draupadi had been elevated.'' I depicted Draupadi as a strong brave and humane personality, who was also the reason for the establishment of the rule of righteousness in the country then reasoned,'' he added. He said he would propagate the greatness of Telugu literature all over the world.
