Hyderabad, Jan 6th: The state government hiked ticket fares on APSRTC buses by 25 percent from Thursday to pay for the losses incurred in the month-long agitation over the Telangana issue and the pay deal with striking employees. The hike is 8 paise per km for ordinary buses, 10 paise for express services, 11 paise for deluxe, 13 paise in super luxury and 25 paise for Garuda services. The minimum fare has been hiked to Rs 5.
Another shocker for the consumer may also be in the offing with power utilities in the state making a request for tariff hike of about 20 per cent to raise an additional Rs 1,250 crore. The revenue deficit of four discoms, AP Transco and AP Genco has touched Rs 10,000 crore. Domestic and agriculture consumers would most likely be spared the hike, but there is also a proposal to charge higher tariff on consumers with more that 500 units monthly consumption. Opposition parties strongly objected to the indiscriminate hike in RTC fares.
