Kakinada, Jan 18th: A high speed boat, built at the ABG shipyard in Surat, was commissioned at a function at the Indian Coast Guard, Kakinada station on Jan 18. Coast Guard Deputy Inspector General A Talha said the boat, which could sail at a speed of 45 nautical miles per hour, would guard the entire coast in its area of operation responding to the situations very quickly. The Kakinada station would be equipped with another speed boat during current year, he added.

''The boat would be stationed at the OSV berth at the Deep water port provided by the Kakinada Sea Ports Limited. Though Kakinada Coast Guard station started functioning in 2006, for want of surveillance boats it was carrying on its operations using the Coast Guards ships from Visakhapatnam and Chennai stations. Now with the help of the speed boat Charley-141, it would guard the entire coast in its area of operation responding to the situations very quickly,'' he said.

East Godavari Superintendent of Police Y Nagireddy, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, said the hi-speed boat would be of great help for both the coast guard and the marine police in tracking the marine intruders and to safeguard the installations of oil companies in KG Basin.
