Kakinada, Jan 17th: The minister for social welfare, Mr. Pilli Subash Chandrabose, stressed the need for adopting modern and scientific methods in agriculture as they can give better results by easily encountering problems like drought in the recent kharif. Mechanisation of agriculture is a welcome feature and the nation would only progress when farmers prosper, he opined. The minister made the comments at the Third East Godavari district-level Sankranti Puraskars-2010, organised by the department of agriculture at the Rangaraya Medical College's auditorium on Jan 17.

He was the chief guest on the occasion. Mr Bose said that many farmers in the district were not aware about the scientific methods in agriculture and its related areas. As a result, the farmers and the government were losing a lot, particularly the produce. Hence, he directed the officials to take effective steps like creating awareness among the farmers about the modern methods and the farmer-friendly welfare schemes. He also suggested that the farmers follow the guide-lines of the scientists while farming and properly utilise all the amenities provided by the government for better results. Earlier, Jaggampeta MLA, Mr Thota Narasimham, recalled the services rendered by former chief minister YSR.
