Awareness drive for rabi season

Kakinada, Jan 18th: The Agriculture department of East Godavari district is taking effective steps to increase the yield from both paddy and pulses in the rabi season, as it could not get the expected yield during the kharif season because of drought. Besides taking more care for paddy cultivation in some selected areas in the district of 60 mandals, the officials and scientists are engaged in persuading the farmers, particularly those who were not able to cultivate paddy due to non availability of water, to grow alternative crops like pulses, including green gram and red gram.

Apart from this, it also started organizing awareness camps in the effective and scientific  methods of cultivation and motivating the farmers to utilize all the farmer friendly welfare schemes for better results. The department was aiming to organize nearly 135 'Polambadi' programs in the rabi season for the farmers to teach them effective methods for better results. The joint director of agriculture, Mr. T. Nandaiah said that till now 40 percent of the transplantation in 80,000 hectares of paddy cultivation was completed in the rabi season. The rest of the work would be completed by the end of this month.
