2 arrested in Vaishnavi murder case

Vijayawada, Feb 4th: Police have arrested two people in connection with the case relating to kidnap and murder of 10-year-old school-girl Naga Vaishnavi, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister P Sabita Indira Reddy announced on Wednesday. Vaishnavi was kidnapped by three people in a car on Saturday last here and was murdered three days later. The girl's body was dumped in a boiler-cum furnace. It was charred beyond recognition. Subsequently, her shocked father died of cardiac arrest the next day.

Addressing a press conference she said the details of the arrest would be made known to the media later today. She said the state government as well as people across the state were shocked and felt as though they had a lost ''a family member'' in their house. ''We thought that the girl would return safely. The police department had worked hard. Unfortunately, the girl could not be saved, Ms Sabita lamented.

She said the girl's family members had committed an 'uncivilised' act by murdering her. The state government would not rest till the culprits were punished severely. To speed up the trial in the case, the state government has decided to set up a 'fast track court' ,the Home Minister said, adding, she condoled the family members of Vaishnavi and the driver Lakshman Rao who was stabbed by the abductors when he tried to rescue the girl.
