This movie High School2 / Azhagana Ponnuthan is another example of Plagiarism in Indian movies. The story and plot of this movie is lifted from the 1971 classic Robert Mulligan directed Summer of 42. In the original the film starts where the script writer of the film Herman Raucher goes down memory lane and recollects his teenage and the summer vacation he spent in his village. There he has a one-sided romance with a woman who is much older to him, whose husband had gone off to fight the Second World War. It was a pathbreaking “coming-of-age” film which has now been almost remade crudely with a lot of unnecessary South Indian nativity thrown in to glorify the heroine character as a ‘Sati Savithri’. The film falls flat as the narration is weak. There are continuity problems in Namitha’s make-up. The reason why Summer of 42 is considered a classic is the chemistry between Gary Grimes who played the 15 year old Hermes lusting after Jennifer O’Neil and the passionate build up to the final act. Azhagana Ponnuthan, just does not work because there is no passion or build up and the whole thing is in the hero’s imagination! Added to that there is crude comedy, songs including an item number are thrust in plus lots of melodrama and ladies sentiments in the climax. Keep away from this film, which leaves you cold! Forget about Watching it.. but Dont even Linger near the Movie theater as its a complete disaster to any any one except for Fans fancying Namitha`s Glamour.
